In the Beginning:
In 1924 a German immigrant, Otto Schmitz, passed through the gates of Ellis Island and made his way to Colorado to start a new life. At 23 years old, alone and with only $25 in his pocket, he settled in Longmont Colorado. He married the love of his life, Vera - a nurse who had relocated from Iowa, and with his children (Lorie's mother Marian) by his side, built his business to greatness. By the 1960s, Otto, the hard working and proud owner of Schmidt's Flowers was the premier floral designer around the state of Colorado. He was beloved by his customers, neighbors and raised a family with deep roots in Colorado.
At the same time, Norman and Irma Boll started their voyage moving from Wisconsin to Colorado. They made their way to Estes Park where they raised their children, including Lorie's father Tom, on Big Elk Ranch in Allenspark Colorado. From ranching to their helping friends and neighbors build and run their own businesses in the Estes Park Area (including the Aspen Lodge, Charlie Eagleplume's and McGregor Ranch) they made Estes their home and planted the roots for generations to come.
Lorie Cooper, 53 and Christy Rusch, 50, are 3rd generation Coloradoans. They reside in a family compound in-between Allenspark and Estes Park and live with their families. They have over 30 years of experience in the floral and wedding industry, 10 years in Sacramento, CA, where she owned a wedding planning service and specialty wedding floral designing shop, planned weddings for dignitaries, celebrities and political leaders. With over 4,000 weddings in their repertoire including a Kennedy family wedding, Governor's and Senator's daughters and have traveled to prestigious locations for events in New York, Boston, Florida, Chicago, London and Paris. As a family run operation, together with their mother and daughters, they provide clientele with more than just flowers, but with a family servicing of wedding details that are unparalleled.
